It is difficult to grasp. It has finally happened. Suddenly, with the military commanding a quarter of seats in government, everything Daw Suu has said about the military makes sense as she takes power over the majority of government which she shares with the military. All the talk about it being her father’s military has come into perspective.

There will now be conflicting interests for Daw Suu Kyi where she has traditionally been on the side of the people but in recent history has acted in ways she could be considered a traitor. Many watchers understood this was in effort to rise to power. Now she is here. How will be move forward?
What should equally be celebrated is with this election we heard and witnessed the people of Burma’s active participation. Greater consideration should be given to that fact.
